Lady Terra

Jamaican-born, Nicole Letren, was re-born "Lady Terror" after graduating from Howard University in 1995 with a bachelor degree in music. Little did she know that two people, Daddy Saw and Joey Budafuco, she was about to meet would help her realize her goal of becoming one of the few female Dancehall reggae DJ’s.
As a result, Daddy Saw recognized her potential and gave her the opportunity to spin records live on her own. Terror was given the drive-time slot from 4 to 7pm from Mon-Fri. on Mixx 96, and became the house DJ for "Rockers Island" and "Mad House" where she made quite an impression on the Dancehall community. As her popularity grew, she has made some of the "Best of"..lists and has been invited to perform out of state and in the Caribbean at various night club and concert events.
In 2001, on the eve of "9"11, Lady Terror added the title of mother to her name and has since changed her schedule. Today she can be heard on Saturday mornings from 12-2pm and often at Krazy on Friday nights. "Just as challenging as it is to mix two completely different styles of music [going from a soca to a reggae tune without missing a beat] is how challenging my schedule from single mommy to reggae DJ is. I am awed and humbled by the compliments I still receive wether it is someone reminiscing or complementing a mix I just played, and it motivates me to continue doing what I love to do.. play sweet reggae music."
Giselle the Wassi One

Giselle Blanche, also known as Giselle The Wassi One, is part of a strong musical heritage. Her father, Keith Blanche, appointed his daughter two soca ambassadors, Baron and Superblue as her godfathers. This decision would ultimately fulfill a prophecy of the role that she would play later in life. Giselle\'s first venture in the music arena was when she spearheaded the birth of a carnival mas band, called D Wassi Ones and D Wassi Babes in 1987 and historically became Miami\'s youngest bandleader ever. She later made the transition to radio when she joined the popular Caribbean radio station, MIXX 96.1 as a rookie in November 1996, after being encouraged by former schoolmates and station founders Daddy Saw and Joey Budafuco. They had always known of her serious passion for soca/ Caribbean music and culture and her vibrant personality. From her first day on air, the vibes and energy that came from this young woman have been unstoppable. Giselle transformed the Jamaican dancehall mic format and emerged as the first soca mic person. She was crowned, DWassi One, by fellow on air personality, Papa Keith, after he saw her coming to the studio around Miami Carnival time covered in glitter and glue and to this day, that is her namesake. During her tenure with MIXX, Giselle has spread her wings to nightclub appearances such as her regular spot in the Soca Room at the Madhouse on the road at Ole Ole, Las Olas Riverfront weekly on Fridays and regular guest appearances at Socamania inside Banana Boat in Fort Lauderdale. She has also traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and the Caribbean representing soca music. In 1999, she joined Mystic 1580AM hosting her own show for one year while still hosting her own show on MIXX 96. It was always Giselles wish to collaborate with fellow MC and DJ, Lady Terra, one of South Floridas top reggae Selectors. During a re-formatting phase for the station, she suggested that they combine efforts and develop a program that they would host together to blend soca and reggae as well as their DJing styles. From that moment on the two were dubbed DOUBLE TROUBLE! The joint Diva effort brings a completely new format to the South Florida on air market and has received rave reviews from their dedicated listeners. Featured in a front page Miami Herald article in October 2003, Giselle may now be caught on television on Video Mix in a segment called Island Vibes which features the hottest Caribbean music videos, artists and deejays. She has also recorded numerous soca songs including the hits Carnival Calling featuring Alison Hinds, Selecta featuring Benjai, Divas Run De Town with Denise Belfon andParty. She earned two nominations in the 2004 Soca Awards for Best New Artist as well as Best Collaboration for her song with Benjai. She was also voted South Florida Female DJ of the Year 2003 and 2004. With all of that, Giselle is not satisfied. As a matter of fact, she says she has only just begun. In 2005, the vision is much the same for Giselle, keep the flag and the vibes of the Caribbean flying high. Two more nominations have come her way for Best Female Soca Artist USA and South Florida Female DJ of the Year. With soca music headed to the Grammys in 2006, there is no question that this multi talented, multi faceted Diva is going to be all in that some way, somehow. As she would say herself, Miss It? Yuh Mad or Wha?

DJ Fergie

Who is DJ Fergie? I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York by the Flatbush section of Brooklyn. I grew up into the music business listening and learning from some of the best, at that time, like Afrique, Supa-Doo (presently known as Kolors), and Massive B, as my father decided to start his own sound. He originally played for a sound called Silver Fox from 1991-1992, but later founded OVERPROOF SOUND in the summer of 1992 with selectors like Kat (who formerly founded and played a sound called Die Hard), Sir Carlton, and Fergie (senior). As long as I can remember, I would always beg my father to play on his sound, even when I was too short to see the top of the coffin. I remember stamping the name Overproof on the records every time the sound bought new 45's and Lp's. I grew up studying the way that they played until I was about 10 years old, when the original members of the Overproof sound split up, leaving my father as the only member. At that age, my father gave me my first peice of equipment, a Shadow mixer which I used to start mixing along with a sony cd player, and a 5 disc cd changer. The first record that I ever owned was the 12 inch version of the Slam Riddim (the hottest riddim of that time), which I played over and over on a small stereo with a record player built in on the top.
When I was about 11 years old, my father realized I had a passion for playing music, so he started taking me along with him when he played at baby showers, children parties, barbeques, and at basement and backyard parties. In the summer of 2001 at the age of 13, i played my first birthday party by myself in East New York (Church Avenue and 91st Street). I can recall my father helping me down the stairs with all the equipment. I used his 2 tech. sl1200 mk2's with the Gemini mixer, crown macrotech 1200 amp, with 2 jbl mr 925 speakers, and 2 crates of 12inch records with a box of 45's.
After that party, I knew I was ready for the road, so I began to take my music to the next level and started to play for more events. In 2002 I began to run OVERPROOF SOUND as my father let go of the sound. When I started attending Midwood high school, I used to practice by playing music in the video production and watching the reaction of the students, while promoting myself. I also wore clothing with my name designed on it as a way of self promotion. Late 2002 my talent picked up as I began playing for several parties, with my uncle Winston (R.I.P.), which included house parties, backyard parties, and barber shop parties just to name a few. Before I knew it, I was playing for bigger events like weddings, sweet 16s and many more. In the summer of 2003, I threw a going away party, called the Signal the Plane Jump Off, at Shirley's Hideout with my cousins from the Dress Code family in New York.
In November of 2003, my family and I relocate to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where I started to make my name as DJ FERGIE. I began playing at events for city functions in Broward and Miami-Dade counties. I had the privilege to DJ for Dale Holness, the Commissioner of Lauderhill, at his acceptance party when he won the race as the commissioner. I attended Piper high where I began to spread the word that I am DJ Fergie. In 2005 I spoke to Sergeant Sosa (the school's J.R.O.T.C. chief instructor) about playing music for Piper events, and he allowed me to DJ at basket ball games with DJ Illusion, the local DJ. DJ Illusion and I also played for the boys and girls club of Hollywood.
From then on, I saw many doors open for me. I began playing for school pep rally's, and at many student's house parties. I went from doing house parties to hotel parties almost every weekend, where I met several people like DJ Paul. DJ Paul introduced me to a couple of club owners, who gave me a spot in some popular mature night clubs like Top Hop Gardens, where I began to DJ every Friday. From hotels in Coconut Grove, to houses in West Palm, I was out playing everywhere. In the spring of 2005, I met my cousin from London named know as "Stamina", a high school friend "Linky" , and decided to put them under the Overproof sound. As I began going out to the local clubs, I met a promoter by the name of Lady D. who introduced me to 93.5 Real Deal radio, as well as Trends night club. In the spring 2007, I met a promoter, named Wizard, who gave us our first chance to play in Astis Lounge for his Mixology party. From then on he put the Overproof sound on the map of Florida with us doing parties every week in clubs like Emerald Coast, Astis Lounge, and Banana Boat.
In April 2007, I parted from Linky and Stamina and kept the sound to focus on my career as DJ FERGIE from OVERPROOF sound. Starting off alone was rough, but as I practiced and played out more and more, I became bigger and better moving on to many more parties like Mad Mondays and College Nights every Saturday. In the summer of 2007 I played at a party for the "Ink Family" local promoters where I met DJ Springer. At the party I played for an hour, and then turned the controls over to DJ Springer. The party was so good that it left an impact on the promoters, who decided to throw another one. The second party they threw did not have a such good turn out due to heavy rain showers, however the music did not stop there. In fact it had just begun when Dj Springer and I decided to have a Dub for Dub friendly clash. Big tune after big tune… We had it out until it was time to close. That was the night when I realized that he had some qualities and music that I was lacking. The following week I invited him to come to an All Age Mondays party with me at the Banana Boat to DJ, but at the last minute, the club was shut down and the party relocated to a place called Island Mecca. That night DJ Springer decided to Mc as I played, and the party turned out to be so good that he called it "Mad Mondays", and that became the name ever since. Every Monday night of that summer you could find DJ Springer and DJ Fergie at "Mad Mondays" making a scene.
The promoter, Wizard, saw the talent that we possessed as a team and decided to put us on as one of the main DJs at his college parties every Saturday night. During that time, I went out every weekend with him promoting for his different events, while at the same time promoting myself as a DJ. Later that summer, a mutual friend invited me out to Yage Bay night club, where I took Wizard with me. When we arrived, Wizard realized that he knew the promoters and he could get them to give me a chance to play at one of his parties. The following week, I went back down to the club with Wizard and DJ Springer, for a chance to play and showcase our talent. The promoters were weary about letting us play at first, but he decided to give us a chance at 3:45 am and was surprised to see how we held it down until it was time to go at 4:30 am. Since then DJ Springer and I have been the house DJ's for the every friday night event that they call "Krazy". Since then, we have played at many more functions of all kinds for all age groups.
• I soon began to play music for family parties with a five disc CD changer and a Coby CD player.
• 98 was the year Pops started playing with terra (who later went to play for super doo sound) and Fuji (who played for steelie Bashment)
• 98-00 pops played on 93.5fm
• pops played on 1600 wwrl

Walshy Killa

Walshy Fires career is punctuated by landmark achievements, and with number one hit makers, Black Chiney (producers of Various Dancehall #1 hits, and several callaborations with Hip Hop/RnB artists, most recently two songs on John Legends next album) there are sure to be many more. Known as the "remix kings" Walshy Fire, Supa Dups, Willie Chin, and Bobby Chin (Black Chiney crew) have fused reggae with hip hop, house and rock n roll. He has played live in front of thousands of people during Belgiums Krak Rock Festival, Guyanas Easter Fest, Torontos Caribana, performing the largest events for Trinidads Carnivaland, as well as Toured japan. But despite his meteoric success, Walsh remains grounded about his achievements and clearly loves making and playing music above the accolades it brings.
Born Leighton Paul Walsh, Walsh is originally from Jamaica and is the younger brother of Cricket legend Courtney Walsh. He became a DJ because of his love to share music with other people. "When I was younger, I'd listen to a radio show in jamaica called "Cyan Sleep" hosted by GT Taylor and would record the dubplates from GT and the guest sounds on the show. Then i moved to miami and would listen to a miami dj name Uncle Al (RIP) where he would talk over a song and change the words to make the song have a whole different meaning. I taped his show and become engulfed in the two worlds of hip hop and dancehall." Starting out as a co-host to jason walker on georgia states radio while attending Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, he progressed to student parties, and then to three nights a week in a club, learning and perfecting his craft. "Music was always my first love but back then I didnt know it was possible to make a living out of being a DJ ". So after graduating college Walsh got a job with IBM and entered the corporate world. "But that job didnt satisfy me, i missed the mixing elements of being a dj!". The productions came right after grad school at FAMU, in 2003 when he hooked up with Supa Dups of the world renown Black Chiney sound. "I really wanted to produce music that I could play in my sets, because it brings much more fulfilment to the process. I bought some samplers, some computer programs, and just started working on it. Dups and Willie Chin made it look easy, me and bobby chin made it sound easy". Black Chineys Productions consistently bother the charts and frequently reach number one around North America and the Islands.
Though known primarily for his pioneering contributions to the Dancehall scene, Walsh's style is now a mix of everything: dancehall, house, soca, hip hop, RnB, garage, drum n bass - its the best of all that the music world has to offer. "In 1998, I was really a reggae DJ, but now Ive travelled round the world so much, different influences have seeped in and I play a bit of everything. I think the only way forward for DJs now is to play a diverse mix of sounds". Indeed, his brand of music was always pushing at the constraints of the genre anyway, spine-tingling breakdowns, and euphoric melodies at every end of the spectrum. His productions, sets, and releases range from peak time club heaven to the sort of perfect chill out that bring a woman to tears, and have at times owed as much influence to classical music as to dance.
The many high profile gigs and shows have now taken Walsh away from exclusively playing clubs, and propelled him to become more of a mainstream artist. "Often at my shows now, half of the people are die-hard clubbers, but the other half are people who know me from my radio show on mix 96.1 FM in Miami, or from more mainstream gigs," he says. "Its more like theyre going to a concert, so now I get a great mix of both worlds".
Describing the last few years as a journey of defining moments, (as well as the usual club successes, his shelves are groaning under the weight of numerous awards. 2006 Walsh was awarded best reggae radio progam by the Miami New Times.
Some highlights that are his favourites include the first night of the Black Chiney In Concert show in Belgium in 2004: "I was really aware of what was going on, the music was just right a mix of all my big tunes and new tunes, everything just felt perfect that night. Also Would Be Berlin, I played for 4 hours straight, and it was my favourite gig ever". Walsh is currently testing new sounds in the studio, and writing more vocals himself. "Im not looking for any big collaborations right now, Im more interested in a burgeoning talent someone whose voice is good, and that really touches you. A voice should sound like an instrument to me. Ive had a spell away from the studio, relaxing and travelling, but now Im really enthused about getting back in there. Im more open to doing remixes again. I like to hear a track and right away know what I want to do with it, what I can make different, and whether itll work for me in my sets all my remixes have to be tried and tested".
The future for Walsh promises yet further success, both as the solo artist hes become and the DJ we know him to be. Another cd, more remixes....? definitely, he agrees, but its hard to look too far into the future. Every couple of months it seems that something new, unexpected and exciting is happening!
